With five campuses across the Metro Vancouver area, including Aerospace and Marine campuses, and more than 48,000 students, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is one of B.C.’s largest post-secondary institutions. It offers about 360 diploma, degree and certificate programs in applied and natural sciences, business and media, computing and information technology, engineering, health sciences and trades. It provides training in all modes of transportation: air, sea, road, and rail, through its globally recognized accredited programs.

Its new 300,000 sq.-foot Aerospace Technology Campus houses a fleet of 20 aircraft, including airport control tower simulation technology and a Boeing 737. In keeping with its applied education model, simulation technology is well-represented at BCIT, with Western Canada’s only marine engine room simulation and an interactive fire simulation theatre.

BCIT is the largest and longest-serving provider of trades training and apprenticeship programs in Western Canada, with programs including electrical, carpentry, joinery, metal fabrication, piping, sheet metal, and welding. It is also the primary contributor of nurses and allied health professionals to the provincial health system, and graduates 100 per cent of sonography, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, and radiation therapy specialists in B.C., as well as 100 per cent of electroneurophysiology, prosthetics and orthotics, cardiovascular perfusion, and clinical genetics specialists in Western Canada

BCIT’s business school has one of the most specialized marketing faculties in the country. BCIT is also a leading provincial provider of computing graduates, with many programs being the largest or most extensive of their kind.

BCIT is a member of Polytechnics Canada. A polytechnic is a skills-intensive, technology-based institute. It typically has close industry ties, emphasizes applied research and innovation, and offers four-year bachelor’s degrees.
